A Study of School Administrative Distress and Workload Reduction
in Taipei Elementary Schools

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to explore the degree of distress in the operation of administrative affairs in elementary schools as well as the relationship between the distress of these affairs and the importance of education. This study also examines the differences toward distress affairs between schools of different sizes and school personnel of different positions. The study collected relevant data from questionnaires and discussions of focus groups. The collected opinions were from principals, directors, team leaders and teachers. The conclusions of this study show that: First, school managements distress exists and needs to be addressed. Second, in response to the development of the education stage, education administrative institutes should appropriately simplify or integrate related affairs that cause distress. Third, to simplify administrative distressed affairs, we need to consider the importance of the educational ideal. Fourth, the problems of the administrative affairs of each school are not significantly different. Finally, administrative staff of different ranks in the school hierarchy have significantly different distress in administrative affairs. Based on the results, specific suggestions are put forward for the integration and adjustment of the administrative affairs of the school as a reference for education policy planning and guidance.
