Abstract:
Although educational authorities and scholars have fostered the practices of instructional supervision for years, it remains one of the most important educational reform tasks in Taiwan. In educational theory and practice, instructional supervision and formative teacher evaluation are merging together to enhance professional development of teachers. This paper discusses the basic concepts of developmental supervision and teacher evaluation for professional development, respectively. This paper also provides six suggestions of applying developmental supervision to teacher evaluation for professional development. The suggestions are as follows:(1) enhancing the concepts of instructional supervision and teacher evaluation, (2) constructing a system of differentiated instructional supervision, (3) strengthening the cultivation of instructional supervisors and teacher evaluators, (4) enhancing the merge of teacher evaluation for professional development with other curriculum and instruction programs, (5) utilizing multiple techniques to provide teachers with teaching and learning feedbacks, (6) providing teachers with sufficient instructional resources and support.
